{"id":11634,"date":"2019-04-17T20:38:21","date_gmt":"2019-04-17T20:38:21","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/dbtut.com\/?p=11634"},"modified":"2019-04-17T20:38:22","modified_gmt":"2019-04-17T20:38:22","slug":"how-to-create-database-role-in-sql-server","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/dbtut.com\/index.php\/2019\/04\/17\/how-to-create-database-role-in-sql-server\/","title":{"rendered":"How To Create Database Role in SQL Server"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>When authorizing users in databases, you can use system-defined roles such as db_datareader, db_datawriter, db_owner, or database-level permissions, such as Execute, View Definition.<\/p>\n<p>If there are multiple users that we want to grant same privileges, we can create a database role and grant permission to users through this database role.<\/p>\n<p>In order to create a database role, you need CREATE ROLE permission, db_securityadmin or db_owner privilege.<\/p>\n<h2>Create a Database Role via SSMS<\/h2>\n<p>First, in the database under the Securtiy tab, right-click on the Roles and click New Database Role.<\/p>\n<p id=\"cDOwJAb\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"611\" height=\"443\" class=\"size-full wp-image-11635  aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/dbtut.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/04\/img_5cb5e34d378fb.png\" alt=\"\"><\/p>\n<p>After that, let&#8217;s determine the name of the role and the owner of this role. I&#8217;m choosing dbo as this owner. If we select a different user as the owner of the role, you can not delete this user without changing the owner of the role.<\/p>\n<p id=\"wxaRGVO\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" wp-image-11637  aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/dbtut.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/04\/img_5cb5e486b59f4.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"777\" height=\"409\"><\/p>\n<p>Right click on the database to grant the required permissions to the role. From the Properties option, open the Permissions tab.
