In fact, this feature came with SQL Server 2012 SP1 CU2, but could not be done through SSMS.<\/p>\n<h2>Step1 (Create an Azure account)<\/h2>\n<p>You will need to have an azure account. You must first create an azure account at <a href=\"https:\/\/portal.azure.com\/\">https:\/\/portal.azure.com\/<\/a>.<\/p>\n<h2>Step2 (Create a Storage Account on Azure)<\/h2>\n<p>Click on Storage accounts on the left side of the screen you see in the picture below. On the screen that appears, we click Create Storage Accounts as below.<\/p>\n<p id=\"rGsqZxf\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" wp-image-13027  aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/dbtut.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/09\/img_5d7787aa357b9.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"762\" height=\"386\" \/><\/p>\n<p>On the screen that appears, we perform the following operations from the Project details section.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Note:<\/strong> You can select Blob from Account kind.<\/p>\n<p id=\"zwFpQpa\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" wp-image-13029  aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/dbtut.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/09\/img_5d7787ed75cce.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"765\" height=\"569\" \/><\/p>\n<p id=\"EOwhCYx\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" wp-image-13030  aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/dbtut.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/09\/img_5d7788030ad98.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"757\" height=\"638\" \/><\/p>\n<p>On the next screen, click Create to create the Storage Account.<\/p>\n<p>After creating our Storage Account, we click Storage Accounts again on the left side and click on the storage account we created from the screen below.<\/p>\n<p id=\"ZhoEyxv\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" wp-image-13032  aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/dbtut.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/09\/img_5d7788715d601.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"821\" height=\"236\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Then click on Blobs.<\/p>\n<p id=\"XebqchS\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" wp-image-13034  aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/dbtut.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/09\/img_5d778893e2e1c.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"852\" height=\"430\" \/><\/p>\n<p>On the screen that appears, click the + sign next to the container to create a new container as follows.<\/p>\n<p id=\"MRaxSRG\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" wp-image-13036  aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/dbtut.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/09\/img_5d7788b2edf74.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"833\" height=\"313\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Then we create our container as follows.<\/p>\n<p id=\"zHbxwFP\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" wp-image-13038  aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/dbtut.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/09\/img_5d7788d3666c2.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"819\" height=\"369\" \/><\/p>\n<p>After creating the container, we click the container, then click Properties and note the following URL.<\/p>\n<p id=\"wKhggbN\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" wp-image-13040  aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/dbtut.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/09\/img_5d7788f4d4909.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"792\" height=\"219\" \/><\/p>\n<h2>Step3 (Create SAS Token To Create a Credential)<\/h2>\n<p>Go back to the main screen of the storage account we created with the name mynewtestaccount and click Shared access signature and &#8220;Generate SAS and connection string&#8221; as shown below.<\/p>\n<p id=\"rQXHdiK\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" wp-image-13042  aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/dbtut.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/09\/img_5d7789167b54d.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"796\" height=\"599\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Then copy the SAS token. We will use this code later.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Important note:<\/strong> Copy the SAS token without &#8220;?&#8221; sign. Otherwise you may receive one of below errors.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><em>Msg 3201, Level 16, State 1, Line 1<\/em><\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><em>Cannot open backup device &#8216;https:\/\/mynewtestaccount.blob.core.windows.net\/mytestcontainer\/AdventureWorks2014.bak&#8217;. Operating system error 50(The request is not supported.).<\/em><\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><em>Msg 3013, Level 16, State 1, Line 1<\/em><\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><em>BACKUP DATABASE is terminating abnormally.<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<p id=\"mZYdSKJ\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" wp-image-13044  aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/dbtut.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/09\/img_5d77894051611.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"808\" height=\"336\" \/><\/p>\n<p><strong>Important note2:<\/strong> Note expiry date of your SAS token. Otherwise you can not backup your database to azure storage account or restore your database to your local instance from this backup.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-13073\" src=\"https:\/\/dbtut.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/09\/Ads\u0131z-2.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"754\" height=\"467\" \/><\/p>\n<h2>Step 4 (Create a Credential To Connect Securely to Azure Storage Account)<\/h2>\n<p>We need to create a credential as follows:<\/p>\n<pre class=\"lang:default decode:true\">CREATE CREDENTIAL [write_your_credentialname_here] WITH IDENTITY = 'SHARED ACCESS SIGNATURE' ,\nSECRET = 'paste_your_SAS_token_here_without_?';<\/pre>\n<p><strong>My create credential script:<\/strong><\/p>\n<pre class=\"lang:default decode:true\">CREATE CREDENTIAL [https:\/\/mynewtestaccount.blob.core.windows.net\/mytestcontainer] WITH IDENTITY = 'SHARED ACCESS SIGNATURE',\nSECRET = 'sv=2018-03-28&amp;ss=bfqt&amp;srt=sco&amp;sp=rwdlacup&amp;se=2019-09-05T16:30:56Z&amp;st=2019-09-05T08:30:56Z&amp;spr=https&amp;sig=VnUmMllk4Xys1KDi6CdXMQJWQ9NH7AQsRWifavkgNxI%3D';<\/pre>\n<p id=\"BDQPebf\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" wp-image-13047  aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/dbtut.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/09\/img_5d778bf049af2.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"779\" height=\"180\" \/><\/p>\n<h2>Step 5 (Create a Backup To Azure URL)<\/h2>\n<p>Finally we can create a backup on our azure blob storage. You can find the backup script below.<\/p>\n<pre class=\"lang:default decode:true\">BACKUP DATABASE [AdventureWorks2014] \nTO URL = N'https:\/\/mynewtestaccount.blob.core.windows.net\/mytestcontainer\/AdventureWorks2014.bak' \nWITH COMPRESSION, STATS = 1;<\/pre>\n<p id=\"NeguhfP\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" wp-image-13049  aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/dbtut.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/09\/img_5d778c449e6fd.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"816\" height=\"418\" \/><\/p>\n<h2>Step 6 (Check and Access to Backup on Azure)<\/h2>\n<p>Once the backup is complete, we click Storage accounts and then our storage account named mynewtestaccount as follows.<\/p>\n<p id=\"bMeYsjZ\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" wp-image-13051  aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/dbtut.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/09\/img_5d778cadbf40c.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"786\" height=\"615\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Then Click Blobs.<\/p>\n<p id=\"cBGqdWv\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" wp-image-13053  aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/dbtut.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/09\/img_5d778cca75b4d.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"786\" height=\"635\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Finally, click container named mytestcontainer.<\/p>\n<p id=\"LwdILSe\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" wp-image-13055  aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/dbtut.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/09\/img_5d778ce74e627.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"838\" height=\"352\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Then you can see our backups in this path.<\/p>\n<p id=\"FnEFMor\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" wp-image-13057  aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/dbtut.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/09\/img_5d778d0509a56.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"825\" height=\"233\" \/><\/p>\n<h2>Step7 (Connect Azure Storage From SSMS)<\/h2>\n<p>In addition, you can connect to Azure Blob Storage from SSMS:<\/p>\n<p>To connect to Azure Blob Storage from SSMS, Click Connect on Object Explorer and Azure Storage as follows.<\/p>\n<p id=\"EXvUXwo\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"725\" height=\"299\" class=\"size-full wp-image-13059  aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/dbtut.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/09\/img_5d778d5024f92.png\" alt=\"\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Write your storage account name to Storage account and key1 value to account key and click Connect.<\/p>\n<p id=\"pPlpIyR\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" wp-image-13061  aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/dbtut.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/09\/img_5d778d6a1bfd5.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"792\" height=\"275\" \/><\/p>\n<p>You can find Storage account name and key1 value by clicking Acces keys after clicking your storage account.<\/p>\n<p>You can find the example below.<\/p>\n<p id=\"rbjAlIp\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" wp-image-13063  aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/dbtut.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/09\/img_5d778d892f29a.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"855\" height=\"440\" \/><\/p>\n<p>You can see the backups on the azure storage from SSMS like below.<\/p>\n<p id=\"fJtWouK\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"719\" height=\"205\" class=\"size-full wp-image-13065  aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/dbtut.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/09\/img_5d778da707d5e.png\" alt=\"\" \/><\/p>\n<p>If you want to restore a backup in Azure storage to the local instance, I recommend you to read the article &#8220;<a href=\"https:\/\/dbtut.com\/index.php\/2019\/09\/11\/how-to-restore-a-backup-from-urlbackup-on-azure-storage\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">How To Restore a Backup From URL(Backup On Azure Storage)<\/a>&#8220;.<\/p>\n\n<p style=\"margin: 0in;
