{"id":1956,"date":"2018-08-20T13:39:52","date_gmt":"2018-08-20T13:39:52","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/dbtut.com\/?p=1956"},"modified":"2018-11-11T20:45:26","modified_gmt":"2018-11-11T20:45:26","slug":"how-to-install-mysql-using-rpm-packages-on-linux","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/dbtut.com\/index.php\/2018\/08\/20\/how-to-install-mysql-using-rpm-packages-on-linux\/","title":{"rendered":"How to install MySQL using RPM packages on Linux"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The following article is about the installation of MySQL Server on Linux Machine(RHEL) using RPM Packages.<\/p>\n<p>1) Login to the OS using the root credentials for smoother installation<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone  wp-image-1958\" src=\"http:\/\/dbtut.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/08\/Linux_Version.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"505\" height=\"38\" \/><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone  wp-image-1959\" src=\"http:\/\/dbtut.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/08\/GNU.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"681\" height=\"26\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The above screenshots shows the OS details i.e. the current machine is RHEL 6.4 version and is of 64 bits.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>2) Download the RPM packages from the MySQL official website :<\/p>\n<pre class=\"lang:default decode:true\">https:\/\/dev.mysql.com\/downloads\/<\/pre>\n<p>You can download the RPM packages on the Linux box directly or download it on your local machine and then transfer the packages to the target machine(On which you want to install the MySQL server) using any tools like FileZilla or WinSCP. In this installation, I am using the WinSCP tool to transfer the packages.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone  wp-image-1961\" src=\"http:\/\/dbtut.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/08\/WinSCP.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"734\" height=\"264\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Location of the RPM package on the Linux box:<br \/>\n<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone  wp-image-1962\" src=\"http:\/\/dbtut.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/08\/RPM_Location.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"743\" height=\"100\" \/><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>3) Extract(untar) the RPM package using the following command:<\/p>\n<pre class=\"lang:default decode:true\">tar -xvf filename.rpm<\/pre>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Sample :<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone  wp-image-1963\" src=\"http:\/\/dbtut.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/08\/Untar.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"738\" height=\"178\" \/><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>4) Install the MySQL RPM packages one by one using the following command:<\/p>\n<pre class=\"lang:default decode:true\">rpm -ivh RPMFileName.rpm<\/pre>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Below is the screenshot of installation progress for your reference<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone  wp-image-1964\" src=\"http:\/\/dbtut.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/08\/Progress_1.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"732\" height=\"323\" \/><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone  wp-image-1966\" src=\"http:\/\/dbtut.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/08\/Progress_2.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"733\" height=\"193\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Kindly note the password that is present in the file(<strong>\/root\/.mysql_secret<\/strong>) that we will use later.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>5) Start the MySQL service:<\/p>\n<pre class=\"lang:default decode:true\">service mysql start<\/pre>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone  wp-image-1969\" src=\"http:\/\/dbtut.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/08\/Service.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"716\" height=\"59\" \/><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>6) Login to the MySQL using the password present in the .mysql_secret file in step 4:<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone  wp-image-1968\" src=\"http:\/\/dbtut.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/08\/Login_MySQL.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"715\" height=\"261\" \/><\/p>\n<p>You can see the MySQL server version above(5.6.35).<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>7) Change the password for the MySQL DB login as per your choice.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone  wp-image-1970\" src=\"http:\/\/dbtut.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/08\/Password_MySQL.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"570\" height=\"93\" \/><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>You can login with the new password the next time you login to MySQL.<\/p>\n<p><strong>The MySQL server has been successfully installed now on your machine.
