Before migrating data, I will give information about oracle_fdw.<\/p>\n<h4>What is oracle_fdw?<\/h4>\n<p>Oracle_fdw is an extension that allows you to access Oracle tables and views through foreign tables.<\/p>\n<p>When the PostgreSQL client accesses a foreign table, Oracle_fdw accesses the corresponding data in the Oracle database via OCI on the PostgreSQL server.<\/p>\n<figure style=\"width: 901px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/miro.medium.com\/max\/1400\/1*E3J8SYL2BmZDSnii65lCGQ.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"901\" height=\"311\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-caption-text\">Accessing Oracle Database<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>In order to migrate data from Oracle database to PostgreSQL database, we need to do the following steps. Transactions were performed using Centos 7 and PostgreSQL 12.<\/p>\n<p>1. We are installing Oracle Client on the PostgreSQL server.<\/p>\n<pre class=\"lang:default decode:true \">$ sudo yum install -y http:\/\/yum.oracle.com\/repo\/OracleLinux\/OL7\/oracle\/instantclient\/x86_64\/getPackage\/oracle-instantclient19.8-basic-19.8.0.0.0-1.x86_64.rpm<\/pre>\n<p>To control access to the Oracle database from the server, we install the sqlplus package with the following command.<\/p>\n<pre class=\"lang:default decode:true \">$ sudo yum install -y http:\/\/yum.oracle.com\/repo\/OracleLinux\/OL7\/oracle\/instantclient\/x86_64\/getPackage\/oracle-instantclient19.8-sqlplus-19.8.0.0.0-1.x86_64.rpm<\/pre>\n<p>2. We add the IP and hostname information of the Oracle database server to the \/etc\/hosts file.<\/p>\n<pre class=\"lang:default decode:true \">$ vi \/etc\/hosts\r\n1921.168.1.40 test test<\/pre>\n<p>3. We test access via PostgreSQL server.<\/p>\n<pre class=\"lang:default decode:true \">$ \/usr\/lib\/oracle\/19.8\/client64\/bin\/sqlplus \\\r\n&lt;user&gt;\/&lt;password&gt;@test:1521\/orcl<\/pre>\n<p>4. For oracle_fdw installation, we install the PostgreSQL NonFree repo, which is suitable for PostgreSQL 12 version.<\/p>\n<pre class=\"lang:default decode:true \">$ yum install https:\/\/download.postgresql.org\/pub\/repos\/yum\/reporpms\/non-free\/EL-7-x86_64\/pgdg-redhat-nonfree-repo-latest.noarch.rpm<\/pre>\n<p>5. We install the oracle_fdw package.<\/p>\n<pre class=\"lang:default decode:true \">$ yum install oracle_fdw12.x86_64\r\n<\/pre>\n<p>6. The oracle_fdw extension is created by connecting to the database and we list the extensions in the database using the \\dx command.<\/p>\n<pre class=\"lang:default decode:true \">$ su - postgres\r\n$ psql -d test -U melek\r\ntest# CREATE EXTENSION oracle_fdw;\r\ntest# \\dx<\/pre>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/miro.medium.com\/max\/1400\/1*qNF5vXvbRRPXKZHVVCiUWA.png\" \/><\/p>\n<p>7. We are creating a foreign server.<\/p>\n<pre class=\"lang:default decode:true \">test# CREATE SERVER oradb FOREIGN DATA WRAPPER oracle_fdw OPTIONS (dbserver '\/\/test:1521\/orcl');\r\ntest=# \\dew\r\n                 List of foreign-data wrappers\r\n    Name    | Owner |      Handler       |      Validator       \r\n------------+-------+--------------------+----------------------\r\n oracle_fdw | melek | oracle_fdw_handler | oracle_fdw_validator\r\n(1 row)<\/pre>\n<p>8. We create mapping for PostgreSQL user angel and Oracle database user.<\/p>\n<pre class=\"lang:default decode:true \">test# CREATE USER MAPPING FOR melek SERVER oradb OPTIONS (USER '&lt;username&gt;', PASSWORD '&lt;password&gt;');\r\n<\/pre>\n<p>9. Finally, we create a foreign table.<\/p>\n<pre class=\"lang:default decode:true \">test# CREATE FOREIGN TABLE ftbl_test\r\n (\r\n   id int OPTIONS (key 'true') NOT NULL,\r\n   name varchar(20), \r\n   lastname varchar(20)\r\n )\r\n SERVER oradb OPTIONS (SCHEMA 'MELEK', TABLE 'PERSONS');\r\ntest=# table ftbl_test;\r\n id |  name  | lastname \r\n----+--------+----------\r\n  1 | MELEK  | DURDU\r\n  2 | SENA   | ERO\u011eLU\r\n  3 | ALEYNA | G\u00dcLE\u00c7<\/pre>\n<p>In this article, I told you how we can move data from Oracle to PostgreSQL using oracle_fdw.
