{"id":539,"date":"2018-06-29T21:34:59","date_gmt":"2018-06-29T21:34:59","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/dbtut.com\/?p=539"},"modified":"2020-10-08T07:49:57","modified_gmt":"2020-10-08T07:49:57","slug":"how-to-stop-start-restart-and-reload-postgresql-service","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/dbtut.com\/index.php\/2018\/06\/29\/how-to-stop-start-restart-and-reload-postgresql-service\/","title":{"rendered":"How To Stop, Start, Restart and Reload PostgreSQL Service"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>You can do PostgreSQL service management in two ways.<\/p>\n<p>Generally, restart or reload is required when changes are made to the postgresql.conf file.<\/p>\n<p>You can find information on the right side of the parameters in the postgresql.conf file that require restart or reload.<\/p>\n<p>For example, you can see the line for max_connection parameter below.<\/p>\n<p>max_connections = 4000\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 # (change requires restart)<\/p>\n<h3>First Method:<\/h3>\n<p>You can do this using the systemctl command with the root user.<\/p>\n<p>The PostgreSQL service name will depend on the version you are using.<\/p>\n<p>If you are using version 9.6, the service name is &#8220;postgresql-9.6.service&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>If you are using version 10.2, the service name will be &#8220;PostgreSQL-10.2.service&#8221;.<\/p>\n<pre class=\"lang:default decode:true\">systemctl stop postgresql-10.service\nsystemctl start postgresql-10.service\nsystemctl restart postgresql-10.service\nsystemctl status postgresql-10.service\nsystemctl reload postgresql-10.service<\/pre>\n\n<h3>Second Method:<\/h3>\n<p>You can use the pg_ctl command while in the postgres user.
