In today’s article, we will cover the features and important parameters of Parameter Files in Oracle.<\/p>\n

When opening the database, the parameters in this file are read in the nomount step and the instance is configured according to these parameters.<\/p>\n

When the database is created, by default it is created as spfile<ORACLE_SID>.ora under the $ORACLE_HOME\/dbs directory.<\/p>\n

Without this file the database cannot be started.<\/p>\n

The content of this file is in binary format.<\/p>\n

We can see and change the parameters set in this file by querying the “v$parameter” view.<\/p>\n

Some of the parameters are static and some are dynamic parameters.<\/p>\n

Dynamic parameters are parameters that can be applied while our database is open and take effect immediately.<\/p>\n

Static parameters are parameters that do not take effect immediately after being changed, and we need to close and reopen our database for it to take effect.<\/p>\n
