{"id":57146,"date":"2024-11-14T22:02:24","date_gmt":"2024-11-14T22:02:24","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/dbtut.com\/?p=57146"},"modified":"2024-11-14T22:07:03","modified_gmt":"2024-11-14T22:07:03","slug":"what-is-polybase","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/dbtut.com\/index.php\/2024\/11\/14\/what-is-polybase\/","title":{"rendered":"What Is PolyBase In SQL Server"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>In today&#8217;s article, we will be talking about What is Polybase? and how we can extract data from SQL to SQL with Polybase.<\/p>\n<p>Polybase is one of the auxiliary tools that SQL Server offers us.<\/p>\n<p>Thanks to this, we can join our tables from different sources into a single database and make queries.<\/p>\n<p>Some of these sources include MSSQL, Postgresql, MYSQL, Hadoop, Azure blog storage, etc.<\/p>\n<p>In order to use Polybase, we need to select the fields related to Polybase during the installation.<\/p>\n<p>After selecting this, you can perform the installations.<\/p>\n<p><strong>SQL201901<\/strong> \u2013 Instance where data will be collected<\/p>\n<p><strong>SQL201902<\/strong> \u2013 Instance where data will be retrieved<\/p>\n<p>First, we enable it via sp_configure. (SQL201901)<\/p>\n<pre class=\"lang:default decode:true \">EXEC SP_CONFIGURE @CONFIGNAME = 'polybase enabled', @CONFIGVALUE = 1;\r\nRECONFIGURE WITH OVERRIDE;<\/pre>\n<p>After enabling, we create a database in the instance where our data will be collected.<\/p>\n<pre class=\"lang:default decode:true \">CREATE LOGIN [PolyBaseUser] WITH PASSWORD=N'farukerdem.com', DEFAULT_DATABASE=[master], CHECK_EXPIRATION=OFF, CHECK_POLICY=OFF\r\nGO\r\nUSE [d1]\r\nGO\r\nCREATE USER [PolyBaseUser] FOR LOGIN [PolyBaseUser]\r\nGO\r\nUSE [d1]\r\nGO\r\nALTER ROLE [db_datareader] ADD MEMBER [PolyBaseUser]\r\nGO<\/pre>\n<p>Continue with the polybase configurations by coming back to the SQL201901 server.<\/p>\n<p>We create our credential for the connection.<\/p>\n<pre class=\"lang:default decode:true \">USE PolyBaseD1\r\ngo\r\nCREATE DATABASE SCOPED CREDENTIAL d1\r\nWITH IDENTITY = 'polybaseuser', Secret = 'farukerdem.com';<\/pre>\n<p>We create a data source and fill in the access information.<\/p>\n<pre class=\"lang:default decode:true \">CREATE EXTERNAL DATA SOURCE PolyBaseD1_DS\r\nWITH (\r\n  LOCATION = 'sqlserver:\/\/DESKTOP-V0UFSNU' ,\r\n  CONNECTION_OPTIONS = 'Server=%s\\SQL201902' ,\r\n  CREDENTIAL = d1\r\n);<\/pre>\n<p>We have created the Credential and Data Source and our connections are complete.
