SVN is a type of version control system. Basically it allows a team to manage sharing a code base. Also, it allows to keep revisions of codes and enables to turn back to old code.<\/p>\n<p>Let&#8217;s begin with installation.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Install SVN packages on a RHEL based operating system:<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<pre class=\"\"># yum install httpd mod_dav_svn subversion\n<\/pre>\n<ul>\n<li>Below commands create a new SVN repository. Our repository name will be testRepo.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<pre># mkdir \/var\/www\/svn\/\n# cd \/var\/www\/svn\/\n# svnadmin create testRepo\n<\/pre>\n<ul>\n<li>Change owner of testRepo to apache.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<pre># chown -R apache:apache testRepo\n<\/pre>\n<ul>\n<li>Edit SVN configuration file as below.<br \/>\n<i>You can change \/etc\/httpd\/conf.d\/subversion.conf<\/i> file accourding to your configuration.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<pre># vi \/etc\/httpd\/conf.d\/subversion.conf\n\n   DAV svn\n   SVNParentPath \/var\/www\/svn  \n   AuthType Basic\n   AuthName \"Subversion repositories\"\n   AuthUserFile \/etc\/httpd\/conf.d\/svn.users \n   AuthzSVNAccessFile \/var\/www\/svn\/testRepo\/conf\/authz \n   Require valid-user\n\n<\/pre>\n<ul>\n<li><b>SVNParentPath<\/b> shows path of directory of SVN Repositories.<br \/>\n<b>AuthUserFile<\/b> shows path of SVN users file.<br \/>\n<b>AuthzSVNAccessFile<\/b> shows path of SVN User and Repository authentication file.<br \/>\nYou can create SVN users with &#8220;htpasswd&#8221; command.<br \/>\nIf you are running this command for the first time, you should use &#8220;-cm&#8221; parameter to create a new password file.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<pre class=\"\"># htpasswd -cm \/etc\/httpd\/conf.d\/svn.users oracle\nNew password:\nRe-type new password:\nAdding password for user oracle\n<\/pre>\n<ul>\n<li>If you have existing users on SVN, you should use &#8220;-m&#8221; parameter to update existed password file.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<pre class=\"\">htpasswd -m \/etc\/httpd\/conf.d\/svn.users oracle2\nNew password:\nRe-type new password:\nAdding password for user oracle2\n<\/pre>\n<ul>\n<li>You can list content of password files.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<pre># cat \/etc\/httpd\/conf.d\/svn.users\noracle:$apr1$9t19J\u2026$hCF2GJTlizZfnPjKyk9rk\/\n<\/pre>\n<ul>\n<li>You can authenticate users and repositories with authz file. You can change it according to your configuration.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<pre class=\"\"># vi \/var\/www\/svn\/testRepo\/conf\/authz\n## For groups:\n## group_name = svn_user\n[groups]\ndeveloper = oracle\nother = onur.cinar\n\n## For authenticating users and repositories:\n## [repository_name\/ path of repository directory]\n## svn user or group name = (r,rw) read or read write permissions\n## r = read, rw = read \u2013 write\n\n[\/]\n@other = r\n@developer = rw\n<\/pre>\n<ul>\n<li>Restart Httpd service and add httpd to chkconfig<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<pre># \/etc\/init.d\/httpd restart\n# chkconfig httpd on\n<\/pre>\n<p>That&#8217;s all.
