This article describes how to delete files with a specified extension in a folder. I will share links to articles of other processes that can be done using the Maintenance Plan at the end of the article.<\/p>\n<p>From the Management tab under SSMS, we select Maintenance Plans and Maintenance Plan Wizard as shown below.<\/p>\n<p id=\"BUtCrTg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"505\" height=\"105\" class=\"size-full wp-image-7622  aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/dbtut.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/01\/img_5c39a6be984e8.png\" alt=\"\"><\/p>\n<p>On the next screen, select &#8220;Do not show this starting page again&#8221; as follows and click Next.<\/p>\n<p id=\"xaNPdxk\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" wp-image-7624  aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/dbtut.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/01\/img_5c39a6e3d52ab.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"613\" height=\"541\"><\/p>\n<p>We give a name to the Maintenance Plan from the Name section as follows on the incoming screen.&nbsp; I named DeleteOldBackup.<\/p>\n<p id=\"MSqbbUC\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" wp-image-7626  aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/dbtut.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/01\/img_5c39a70b88686.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"606\" height=\"534\"><\/p>\n<p>Then click Change in the Schedule section. A screen appears as follows.<\/p>\n<p>From Occurs you can choose Daily, Weekly or Monthly.<\/p>\n<ul type=\"disc\">\n<li>Select Daily if you want this maintenance plan to run daily<\/li>\n<li>Select Weekly if you want this maintenance plan to run weekly<\/li>\n<li>Select Monthly if you want this maintenance plan to run monthly<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>In the Schedule section, we click on Change to set it to run once every week on Sunday at 00:00.<\/p>\n<p id=\"wtPwqhV\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" wp-image-7628  aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/dbtut.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/01\/img_5c39a73934e25.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"570\" height=\"482\"><\/p>\n<p>On the next screen, we will delete the files with the specified extension in a folder, so we select Maintenance Cleanup Task as below and click next.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" wp-image-7630  aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/dbtut.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/01\/img_5c39a7626f32e.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"562\" height=\"493\"><\/p>\n<p>In the following screen,<\/p>\n<p>If you select Backup files, it deletes the backup files before the specified date in a folder.<\/p>\n<p>If you select Maintenance Plan text reports, it deletes the reports of the maintenance plans before the specified date.<\/p>\n<p>Deletes a specified file if we select Delete spesific file in File Location.<\/p>\n<p>If we select Search folder and delete files based on an extension, it deletes records from files specified in folder before the specified date with the extension specified in file extension.<\/p>\n<p id=\"dVhXyrk\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" wp-image-7632  aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/dbtut.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/01\/img_5c39a8a498a27.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"576\" height=\"578\"><\/p>\n<p>In the next screen, if you select &#8220;Write a report to a text file&#8221; as below, it will create a report in the folder you selected in Folder location.<\/p>\n<p>If you select the E-mail report option, it will send the reports to the e-mail address you specified in the To: section.<\/p>\n<p>Since I have no operator defined on my server, I got an error like the following.<\/p>\n<p>There are no operators defined on the system.<\/p>\n<p>You may want to read my article &#8220;<a href=\"https:\/\/dbtut.com\/index.php\/2018\/07\/08\/how-to-create-an-operator-on-sql-server\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">How To Create An Operator On SQL Server<\/a>&#8221; to get detailed information about the operator.
