{"id":779,"date":"2018-07-16T18:44:26","date_gmt":"2018-07-16T18:44:26","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/dbtut.com\/?p=779"},"modified":"2018-11-08T13:28:37","modified_gmt":"2018-11-08T13:28:37","slug":"sql-server-maintenance","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/dbtut.com\/index.php\/2018\/07\/16\/sql-server-maintenance\/","title":{"rendered":"SQL Server Maintenance"},"content":{"rendered":"<p lang=\"en-US\">\n<p lang=\"en-US\">I find OLA HALLENGREN&#8217;s maintenance script very successful and practical.<\/p>\n<p lang=\"en-US\">In this article I will tell you where to download and install the script that OLA shared for maintenance.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3>Download And Create<\/h3>\n<p lang=\"en-US\">After downloading the MaintenanceSolution.sql file on the link below, you should run the script on your instance and schedule the jobs created.<\/p>\n<p lang=\"en-US\">I am using DatabaseIntegrityCheck (run dbcc checkdb on all databases) and IndexOptimize (rebuild or reorganize indexes on all databases in intance according to some criteria).<\/p>\n<p><span lang=\"tr\">I<\/span><span lang=\"en-US\"> recommend using a professional backup software for Backup.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3>Monitoring Created Jobs<\/h3>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/ola.hallengren.com\/sql-server-index-and-statistics-maintenance.html\">https:\/\/ola.hallengren.com\/sql-server-index-and-statistics-maintenance.html<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Right-click on the Job Activity Monitor under SQL Server Agent and click View Job Activity.<\/p>\n<p>You can see which jobs are created on the right side. I prefer to delete jobs that are created for Database Backup.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"\" src=\"http:\/\/dbtut.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/07\/194.png\" width=\"654\" height=\"188\" \/><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3>Configure Database Integrity Check<\/h3>\n<p>For other jobs,<\/p>\n<p>I configure the &#8220;DatabaseIntegrityCheck &#8211; SYSTEM DATABASES &#8211; FULL&#8221; job to run every day as follows.<\/p>\n<p>To configure it, you should right click on the relevant job and click Properties.<\/p>\n<p>Then you should come to the schedule tab and click on new. The display comes as follows.<\/p>\n<p>In the Name section you should a name to the schedule. I gave the daily name.<\/p>\n<p>Schedule type should be recurring. You should choose Daily from Occurs.<\/p>\n<p>In the &#8220;Occurs once at&#8221; section, you also set the time the job will work.<\/p>\n<p>Click OK to schedule the job.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"\" src=\"http:\/\/dbtut.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/07\/321.png\" width=\"636\" height=\"471\" \/><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>I will schedule the &#8220;DatabaseIntegrityCheck &#8211; USER DATABASES &#8211; FULL&#8221; job to run once a week.<\/p>\n<p>I can not run DBCC CHECKDB everyday because my databases are large.<\/p>\n<p lang=\"en-US\">If your databases are small, you can set this job to work every day.<\/p>\n<p>To schedule the Job to run once a week, you should select Weekly from Occurs on the above screen.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3>Configure INDEX OPTIMIZE JOB<\/h3>\n<p>I schedule the &#8220;INDEX OPTIMIZE &#8211; USER DATABASES&#8221; job to run once a week.<\/p>\n<p>When you create the script, you will see that CommandExecute, DatabaseBackup, DatabaseIntegrityCheck and IndexOptimize stored procedures are created under the master database.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"\" src=\"http:\/\/dbtut.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/07\/427-1.png\" width=\"315\" height=\"275\" \/><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>By right clicking on these stored procedures you can set the relevant parameters.<\/p>\n<p>I do not recommend taking Backups with this script.<\/p>\n<p>That&#8217;s why you can delete the stored procedure called DatabaseBackup.<\/p>\n<p>You do not need to make any changes to the stored procedure named DatabaseIntegritCheck.<\/p>\n<p>Right click on the stored procedure named IndexOptimize and we click Modify and we set the fill factor to 90 as below and update the SP by pressing F5.<\/p>\n<p lang=\"en-US\">You can bypass this process for smaller indexes by increasing the value of the @PageCountLevel parameter, but I do not need it.
