ERROR:
Msg 2786, Level 16, State 1, Procedure sp_estimate_data_compression_savings, Line 20
The data type of substitution parameter 3 does not match the expected type of the format specification.
Msg 7738, Level 16, State 2, Line 1
Cannot enable compression for object
EXPLANATION:
If you connect to a SQL Server Instance other than Developer, Evaluation, or Enterprise Edition, you can see this error if you run the following command to calculate how much gain you will get if you compress a table with ROW or PAGE data compression,
1 2 3 4 5 6 | EXEC sp_estimate_data_compression_savings @schema_name = 'schema_adi' , @object_name = 'tablo_adi' , @index_id = NULL , @partition_number = NULL , @data_compression = 'PAGE' ; |
SOLUTION:
For example, if you are using Express or Standard Edition, you can see this error. Because the data compression feature is only available for the editions mentioned above in the description section. Unfortunately, Microsoft doesn’t allow us to use this SP, which can be used for calculation, to see what we can gain with compression.
