In today’s article, we will cover the features and important parameters of Parameter Files in Oracle.
When opening the database, the parameters in this file are read in the nomount step and the instance is configured according to these parameters.
When the database is created, by default it is created as spfile<ORACLE_SID>.ora under the $ORACLE_HOME/dbs directory.
Without this file the database cannot be started.
The content of this file is in binary format.
We can see and change the parameters set in this file by querying the “v$parameter” view.
Some of the parameters are static and some are dynamic parameters.
Dynamic parameters are parameters that can be applied while our database is open and take effect immediately.
Static parameters are parameters that do not take effect immediately after being changed, and we need to close and reopen our database for it to take effect.
Important Parameters:
1 | SQL> select name from v$parameter where isbasic='TRUE' order by 1; |
