Unable to start service SQLAGENT$ on server.

ERROR MESAGGE:

“Unable to start service SQLAGENT$ on server.

Access denied (ObjectExplorer)”

EXPLANATION:

We are experiencing new problems due to the security of the User Account Control, a new feature that comes into our lives with Windows Vista and Windows Server 2008 operating systems. That is the reason for this problem is UAC.

It is actually a nice system and would normally recommend its use. Of course, it can be closed in exceptional cases.

The subject of UAC is not the purpose of this article, so I will not go further into this topic. But the reason for this error message is UAC.

SOLUTION:

You can overcome this problem in two ways:

1- Instead of running SQL Server Management Studio directly, right click on the SSMS and click “Run as Administrator”. Because even if your account is an administrator account, Windows will treat you as a normal user unless you request it while UAC is open.

2- Turn off the UAC. But, as I said, I don’t recommend closing the UAC for most cases.
